What are you Thankful for?

October 13, 2013

On this Thanksgiving long weekend, most of us will clean our homes, clean our yards and prep and primp to get ready for the turkey feast that will follow.  Some of us will argue with family about where our valuable time is spent.  Some of us will head to church and some of us will sleep in.
Whatever your plans are this Thanksgiving weekend, take time to reflect and be thankful for all that you have.  For me and for so many others, this will be our health and our families.

I recently saw a posting on Facebook that made so much sense to me. It read:

“As you get older you find out that true happiness is not how much you make or how many degrees you have or how big your house is or how fancy your car is. It’s finding peace and joy and a calmness in your life that will soon become the most important thing to you. Your family are what matters to you, love is what matters to you. Things that are of quality, not of quantity.”  – facebook.com/lovequotes.sayings

It made me think of all of the time that I myself, had spent more time at work then what was truly needed or at a late night meeting that was expected of me and not truly appreciated.  Don’t get me wrong, we all have to do what we have to do to pay the bills. I am not naïve.  What it made me think, was that I hope we all take time this Thanksgiving weekend to reflect on what is truly important to us.To enjoy the time spent with family and to not think of the woulda’s and coulda’s.

This weekend I had a friend tell me that one should focus on the “here and now” so simple yet so profound to me.  We live in a society that is overworked and often under paid. This has left us all “time poor”.  Due to my experience of working crazy hours and raising three kids at the same time,  I understand this time poor feeling all too well. It is part of the reason that I had decided to open my own cleaning business and help other mothers take back some of their valuable time.

However you spend your Thanksgiving weekend, take a moment to reflect and appreciate all of the important people in your life. The dirty dishes can keep just a little bit longer.

Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours.
